Exam 3V0-21.21 topic 1 question 85 discussion

Actual exam question from VMware's 3V0-21.21
Question #: 85
Topic #: 1
[All 3V0-21.21 Questions]

A VMware Service Provider is tasked with delivering a solution for continuous availability for a subset of Tier 1 virtual machines (VMs) and vApps running in their vSAN environment. The VMs make up a mission-critical application and there can be no data loss in the event of an outage at their primary data center. In the event of a regional outage, they have established a 10-minute recovery point objective (RPO). Failover/failback to the third site must be automated.
They have the following in place:
✑ Two local data centers (primary and secondary) connected with 100 Gb dedicated fiber
- 2ms round-trip time (RTT) latency between the sites
✑ A third data center located on another power grid
- 70ms latency between the primary and secondary data centers
✑ Matching storage arrays at all locations
Which two solutions could be used to meet the requirements? (Choose two.)

  • A. Site Recovery Manager
  • B. Snapshots
  • C. vSAN Metro Cluster
  • D. vSphere Data Protection
  • E. vStorage APIs for Array Integration (VAAI)

Metro is a stretched-cluster, vSAN tolerates 5ms to main sites first-second and 150ms to a third site where a witness vm will stay, all details are correct till now. Matching storage arrays at all locations seems to be, or its a single datastore presented to infrastructure itself. As the third site has an infrastructure established as well can be used to replicate VMs from the stretched datastore from first-second, the need of Site Recovery. So A and C.

Selected Answer: AC
Witness to Site -- less than 100msec; 200msec is acceptable https://www.delltechnologies.com/asset/en-us/products/converged-infrastructure/technical-support/vxrail-stretched-cluster-planning-guide-for-7-0.pdf - a latency of less than or equal to 100 milliseconds is preferred.

Can anyone give me a link to Vsan metro cluster? I never heard of it. :) Link is 70ms between 1,2 sites and 3rd site My choice is A and E as they have matching storage. They are adding Vsan in the mix which makes none of the B C or D possible. If they want to use Vsan, then replication should be done with sphere replication, but it is not on the list of valid answers. I think this questions need rewording

Not under that name, but you are able to build alike "vsan metro cluster". As they already have vSAN moving to non-vsan solution might not be an option. But your point is right, vmware is talking only about metro in conjunction with traditional storage - https://core.vmware.com/resource/vmware-vsphere-metro-storage-cluster-vmsc and with no mention of vSan. But from the same document, 70ms RTT to 3rd site might not be enough. But it's ok for vSan withess.
