stupid question. Who will want to shut down VC for host maintenance? In real life you will enable maint. mode and wait for DRS to migrate VC machine without shutting down.

Agreed and i dont understand why DRS isn't the answer when it says "plans to bring" - why rely on HA when you can just use DRS?

If a user is running vSphere Standard then they won't have access to DRS. DRS is a feature only in Enterprise Plus (now vSphere Foundation and VCF).

vCenter HA protects the vCenter Server Appliance (VCSA) against Host and hardware failure, as well as reduce downtime due to VCSA patching. After configuring your network for vCenter HA, you implement a 3-node cluster comprised of Active, Passive, and Witness nodes. ▪ The Active node – Uses the active vCenter – Contains the public IP – Uses the vCenter HA network to replicate data to the Passive node – Uses the vCenter HA network to communicate with the Witness node ▪ The Passive node – Is initially a clone of the Active node – Receives updates from and synchronizes state with the Active node – Automatically takes over Active node roll in event of a failure ▪ The Witness node is solely a lightweight clone of the Active node protecting against a split-brain scenario

Yea HA protects the VCSA against host and hardware failure.. this guy is bringing "planning" on bringing it down. it's not a host nor hardware failure.. why not just use DRS?

With DRS if you put the host in maintanance mode it will migrate the VM to the other host without downtime right ? With HA there will be downtime.

Yes, you've conflated vSphere HA and vCenter HA. vSphere HA reboots VMs from a failed host onto surviving hosts. vCenter HA creates a shadow copy of the vCenter on another host and should the production vCenter go down, the shadow copy is brought on line nearly instantly. https://docs.vmware.com/en/VMware-vSphere/8.0/vsphere-availability/GUID-4A626993-A829-495C-9659-F64BA8B560BD.html

You mentioned HA... This IS NOT JUST HA, it is more specifically vCenter SERVER high availability. The answer is C.

So what you're saying is VCenter ha has to be enabled for DRS to work? because if not, then DRS is just fine
