A physical Linux file server needs to be migrated to VMware ESXi. The server has several volumes: /dev/sda (60GB), /dev/sdb (1TB) and /dev/sdc (4TB). What is the quickest option to migrate the server?
A.
Create an empty VM and perform bare metal recovery inside the VM.
B.
Perform Instant VM Recovery.
C.
Perform Instant Disk Recovery for each volume.
D.
Export all disks, create an empty VM and attach the disks.
"Restore to vSphere VM The procedure of Instant Recovery for a Veeam Agent computer practically does not differ from the same procedure for a VM. The main difference from Instant Recovery is that you do not need to select the recovery mode, because Veeam Agent computers are always restored to a new location."
Normally I'd say lets just use the instant VM recovery because it's "easy" but the question doesn't specify that the physical server has already been backed up. So we should probably assume it's not backed up.
But to be able to export the disks in the first place, you need to have backup. It's even in the official documentation under Exporting Disks:
"You can restore computer disks from Veeam Agent backups created using Veeam Agent for Microsoft Windows and Veeam Agent for Linux and convert them to disks of the VMDK, VHD or VHDX format."
What is the quickest option to migrate the server? - B. Perform Instant VM Recovery.
When you preform Instant Recovery there is a P2V conversion, so a physical machine can be converted to VM on VMware. It is a supported backup type to restore on VMware ESX
It's the fastest option for sure, so answer is B.
answer will be "D"
