Foundation Architecture consists of generic components, inter-relationships, principles, and guidelines. It serves as the most abstract layer in the Architecture Continuum and provides reusable building blocks and standards that can be adapted for more specific architectures.
Reference:
This is detailed in Part V, Chapter 41: Foundation Architecture, in the TOGAF 9.2 standard, where the Foundation Architecture is described as a base layer that supports all other architectures in the continuum.
Foundation Architecture
A Foundation Architecture consists of generic components, inter-relationships, principles, and guidelines that provide a foundation on which more specific architectures can be built. The TOGAF ADM is a process that would support specialization of such Foundation Architectures in order to create organization-specific models.
