Both views demonstrate that use a continuous value of month and year but with different axis formatting. If we look closely to the first view we see that there are many months missing or skipped, so what's happening on the second view is that if you click show missing values, the axis automatically change its format to show the ticks in years.

Why is it exact Date? If it is exact date and discrete each bin in the bar chart shows exact date if you change it to continuous bar chart converts to area chart. The given answer might be correct
