Exam Certified Tableau CRM and Einstein Discovery Consultant topic 1 question 61 discussion

The Universal Containers Einstein Analytics team built a dashboard with two widgets:
1. List widget associated to the query "Type_2" and grouped by the dimension "Type" (multi-selection)
2. Pie chart widget associated to the query "Step_pie_3" and grouped by the dimension "Type"
Additional notes: * The queries use different datasets.
The team wants any selection in the List widget to filter the Pie chart and vice-versa. Users should be able to choose more than one Type (multi-selection).
What is the recommended way to accomplish the required filtering?

  • A. Set up a result and selection based interaction for each query.
  • B. Use "Connect Data Sources" to create a mapping of the two fields from the two datasets.
  • C. Use a selection based interaction and apply it to the query of "Step_pie_3".
  • D. Use a results based interaction and apply it to the query of "Step_pie_3".

Selected Answer: C
The recommended way to accomplish the required filtering, where any selection in the List widget should filter the Pie chart and vice-versa, is to use a selection-based interaction and apply it to the query of "Step_pie_3." Therefore, option C is the correct answer. Option A, setting up a result and selection based interaction for each query, would not provide the desired interactivity between the two widgets. It would allow for filtering within each widget, but not between them. Option B, using "Connect Data Sources" to create a mapping of the two fields from the two datasets, would not provide the desired interactivity either. This feature allows you to blend datasets, but it does not allow for interactivity between widgets. Option D, using a results-based interaction and applying it to the query of "Step_pie_3," would allow for filtering the pie chart based on the selection in the list widget, but it would not allow for filtering the list widget based on the pie chart selection.

Selected Answer: B
B indeed. I did some extensive testing in my dev org. It should be noted that a "selection interaction" would work too, but Connect Data Source should be prefered when possible. Here the statement specifies that the 2 datasets have the SAME dimension (=Type), so it is possible to use "Connect Data Source". Multi-selection is compatible with this method. Vice-verso is enabled by "Connect Data Source" in the 2 directions.
