D is not applicable since 'When an automation is in the middle of a wait activity when the next scheduled or triggered run occurs, that run is skipped.' (https://help.salesforce.com/s/articleView?id=sf.mc_as_wait_activity.htm&type=5) so the answer is C

D the automation will be scheduled to run daily and as soon as the file drops the automation imports and filter contacts to send email secondly it will wait to send another email at 9:00 AM it will filter again on the basis of "ship date" and send email for the day.

Answer is C. A - Scheduled is not correct because we cannot guarantee that the file is uploaded by 7pm B,D - Automation Studio will skip all runs for the next 10 days while in the wait period. This needs two automations to achieve (or use Journey Builder)

I think D does work? You can create a wait to send at exactly 9am.

Why not D? "wants to automate the sending of shipping notices AND a customer survey." Is the trick question in the semantics of "wiil be" and "needs to be"? Is that why C should be the answer?

I think C>D because "he survey needs to be sent at 9:00 a.m., exactly 10 days after the customer's order ships." The scheduled second automation allows us to guarantee the time vs in C were relying on a trigger to run the automation which wouldn't be reliable for exact timing
