should be A master-detail. In this case who owns opportunity has the same rights on installations

custom object cannot exists on its own without an association with Opportuity based on which a purchase made , it has to be child of Opty.

It's without question..A The installation can only have one Parent. e.g You can't install the reception desk quoted at $20,000 for Amazon into the Twitter Office. It's M/D Relationship.

"Typically, you use lookup relationships when objects are only related in some cases. Sometimes contact is associated with a specific account, but sometimes it’s just a contact. Objects in lookup relationships usually work as stand-alone objects and have their own tabs in the user interface." So I think installation information does not work as a stand-alone object. That's why.

The master object can be a standard object, such as Account or Opportunity, or a custom object. As a best practice, don't exceed 10,000 child

Opportunity can't be on the detail side since it is a Salesforce Standard object. Not sure I agree it is A.
