Actual exam question from Salesforce's Certified Data Cloud Consultant
Question #: 24
Topic #: 1
[All Certified Data Cloud Consultant Questions]

Cumulus Financial uses Service Cloud as its CRM and stores mobile phone, home phone, and work phone as three separate fields for its customers on the Contact record. The company plans to use Data Cloud and ingest the Contact object via the CRM Connector.
What is the most efficient approach that a consultant should take when ingesting this data to ensure all the different phone numbers are properly mapped and available for use in activation?

  • A. Ingest the Contact object and map the Work Phone, Mobile Phone, and Home Phone to the Contact Point Phone data map object from the Contact data stream by adding custom fields for Work and Home Phone.
  • B. Ingest the Contact object and use streaming transforms to normalize the phone numbers from the Contact data stream into a separate Phone data lake object (DLO) that contains three rows, and then map this new DLO to the Contact Point Phone data map object.
  • C. Ingest the Contact object and create formula fields in the Contact data stream on the phone numbers, and then map to the Contact Point Phone data map object.
  • D. Ingest the Contact object and then create a calculated insight to normalize the phone numbers, and then map to the Contact Point Phone data map object.

Letter B. Streaming Transforms: allows to process and normalize data in real-time as it is ingested into Data Cloud. In this case, the consultant can use streaming transforms to split the three phone numbers (mobile, home, and work) into separate rows in a new Phone Data Lake Object (DLO). Normalization: by normalizing the phone numbers into a separate DLO, each phone number can be treated as an individual record, making it easier to map and use for activation. Mapping to Contact Point Phone: once the phone numbers are normalized into the new DLO, they can be mapped to the Contact Point Phone data map object, which is the standard object in Data Cloud for managing phone-related data. It's not A because this approach does not normalize the phone numbers into separate rows, making it less efficient for activation and segmentation.

Selected Answer: A
The most efficient approach to ensure all the different phone numbers are properly mapped and available for use in activation is: A. Ingest the Contact object and map the Work Phone, Mobile Phone, and Home Phone to the Contact Point Phone data map object from the Contact data stream by adding custom fields for Work and Home Phone. This approach allows you to directly map each phone number type to the appropriate fields in the Contact Point Phone data map object, ensuring that all phone numbers are properly ingested and available for use in activation.

B. Ingest the Contact object and use streaming transforms to normalize the phone numbers from the Contact data stream into a separate Phone data lake object (DLO) that contains three rows, and then map this new DLO to the Contact Point Phone data map object. This approach ensures that each phone number type (Work, Mobile, Home) is properly normalized and mapped into a structured format that can be easily used for activation. By creating a separate Phone data lake object (DLO) with three rows, you ensure that each phone number is treated as a distinct contact point, which aligns with best practices for data normalization and mapping in Salesforce Data Cloud.

Selected Answer: A
Both A and B are technically correct but the questions asks for the most efficient approach so I would go with A. B option adds more complexity to the solution by creating another DLO which is not necessary given that we are asked to choose efficiency over anything.

what you're mapping to, isn't Contact Point Phone(s). It's "Contact Point Phone"

DMO field can't be mapped to more than one DLO field. So we need different objects I guess.

Why B? There is no special transformation requested so the phones should be simply mapped to Contact Point Phone. I vote A

The correct answer is B because using streaming transforms to normalize the phone numbers into a separate Phone Data Lake Object is the most efficient and scalable approach. This approach allows each phone type to be treated as separate entries in a standardized structure, making it easier to manage, query, and activate for use in Data Cloud. After transforming the data into a normalized format, it can then be mapped to the Contact Point Phone data map object, which is specifically designed to handle multiple contact points.
