MANAGING A STAGE BOUNDARY -
The cost tolerance for stage 3 is forecast to be exceeded. The project manager has therefore decided to remove the ‘updated corporate quality procedures’ from the scope of the project. This would allow the stage to be delivered within time and cost. The project manager has produced an exception plan to present this recommendation to the project board.
Is this appropriate, and why?

  • A. Yes, because an exception plan is required when a stage is forecast to exceed the tolerances set.
  • B. Yes, because scope tolerance can be used to protect time and cost tolerances.
  • C. No, because exception plans are requested by the project board in response to an exception report.
  • D. No, because the current stage is forecast to exceed approved limits.

Selected Answer: C
the project manager shoud raise an exception REPORT to the board. One of Board's possible responses would be to request an exception report.. It is not certain. Another option could be chosen as "amend tolerances".
