An unforeseen event has shut down public works projects for 4 weeks. Activities on the critical path will fall behind based on the project schedule. What should the project manager do?
A.
Add 4 additional weeks to the schedule and request additional resources.
B.
Ask the sponsor to obtain a special work permit to continue work.
C.
Crash the resource management plan to keep the schedule on track.
D.
Review the project management plan to see the impact of the possible delay.
crashing means adding more resources which will increase the cost; so it is important to first review plan and analyze impact of delay and then take appropriate actions..
understand the full impact of the delay, including any ripple effects on the schedule, budget, resources, and project scope. This will help the project manager make an informed decision on how best to address the situation.
The word "possible" here in D is throwing me off. It is not a risk it is an issue that needs to be addressed. I understand assessing the impact, but "possible" feels like it shouldn't be there for D to be the answer.
Crashing might not be the only option as it doesn't always help to throw more resources on a task. The first step is always to figure out the impact. Therefore, I am voting for D
It is unforeseen event, ie unknown unknown risk. It is not in the risk management plan and no corresponding risk strategy. It happen is an issue. It is on critical path, the impact is known which is 4 weeks. It is required to raise CR and seek approval to put 'management reserve' to project baselines (cost and schedules). the answer should be A
D. Review the project management plan to see the impact of the possible delay.
The project manager should review the project management plan to assess the impact of the unexpected event on the project schedule, budget, and scope. They should analyze the project schedule to identify any critical activities that may fall behind and determine if there is any flexibility in the schedule to accommodate the delay. They should also assess the available resources and determine if additional resources are required to get the project back on track. Based on this analysis, the project manager should develop a plan to mitigate the impact of the delay on the project and communicate the plan to the stakeholders.
You have to know the impact of the delay before you can make the decision to Crash. If the impact of the delay is negligible (or acceptable) then there would be no reason to crash.
Crashing is the only way to help the critical path and be on schedule. So I'm voting option C
