A customer has provided excellent feedback on the project. However, a key project resource is leaving the company. Which measure should mitigate the impact of this key resource's departure?
A.
Establish a proactive knowledge-sharing plan
B.
Offer a new contract to the resource who is leaving
C.
Develop a contingency budget to replace the key resource
D.
Update the risk register and inform the customer
While D is a very good option, the question was specific about "mitigating the impact" risk register updates will not in itself mitigate the impact but knowledge sharing is a direct mitigating factor against losing a key resource
D. The normal thing in the day to day of a perfect project manager is to share knowledge, for that it is not necessary to study the PMP. I vote to update the risk register, as the documents are ridiculously sacred to PMI.
They are not asking about what you should do NEXT. They are asking about measures to mitigate the impact.
I believe A is the correct answer. Adding it to the risk register or informing the client WILL NOT reduce the impact of this situation. You want to make sure that when this key resource leaves, there are no gaps.
From customer perspective I would see this as a risk and I would like to be informed about it? "Proactive knowledge sharing" is of course always a good idea as well but you would first need to hire the new knowledge receiving person, no? So my best guess would have been: 1. risk identification & documentation, 2. informing stakeholders, 3. plan mitigation activities (eg. knowledge transfer)...
But they are not asking about what you should do NEXT. They are asking about measures to mitigate the impact.
I believe A is the correct answer. Adding it to the risk register or informing the client WILL NOT reduce the impact of this situation. You want to make sure that when this key resource leaves, there are no gaps.
