I go with "C". 1st Hint is "Team geographically distributed" & " every weekly meeting after using mail to send status report & schedule updates. Here real impediment is tracking the reports from various locations. Training is required if team members not understand or having issues to follow the existing communication. But its not reflected in asked question. So, Maintain a central repository of artifacts with a version control system is good option to collect reports, tracking changes and progress can made.

I think A. The question does not mention that the artifacts are not in a center repository. The problem is that member does not know how to using the version control so training is necessary.

Selected Answer: C
I think C is the answer, I believe they need a central repository system like SharePoint with version control enabled where each team member can share and access project documentation to effectively track the status of the project

Selected Answer: A
Option A seems more appropriate. First, why isn't the team using a version control system? There are 2 possible answers to this: 1. Either there is a version control system already in place but the team doesn't know how to use it. 2. There is no version control system available. Either way, the team will need to learn how to use the version control system before we start talking about maintaining it. Also, is it the project manager who maintains the version control system or the project team?

A. Facilitate training on version control and project artifacts. This option is out. Good option but after training, a version control system will be required else there is no point of giving the training. B. Maintain separate document control via regions to avoid discrepancies. Why document control via region? Question never says documents from different region should be separated. C. Maintain a central repository of artifacts with a version control system. Correct option. Setting up central repository will eliminate confusions and will help to track changes D. Develop a document management software for version control. Option D is out? Should we really keep the project work aside and start working on developing a version control software?

Version control is a powerful tool that allows teams to track and manage changes to a set of files over time. Initially used in the software industry, version control has proven to be a fundamental tool for agile development, as it promotes collaboration, history tracking, rollback, and code review.

I voted D as it did not hint at having a central spot in place, therefore, I thought developing one would make more sense.

Can someone explain why D is the wrong answer?

D. is the worst answer out of your choices. there is no realistic reason to create a document management software with all the OTS programs and tools being used today. And certainly not required for status reports and schedules. in PMP you have to not only have your PM hat on you need to have your logic hat and best practice hat on.
