Question #: 9
Topic #: 1
[All PMP Questions]

Five agile teams working together on a product recently performed release planning. Midway through the project, each team showed that their progress was on track. When all of the teams integrated at the product level, many integration issues were observed. The overall product release progress declined with predictions showing the committed content will not be able to be accomplished.
What should the project manager have done differently?

  • A. Performed a Scrum of Scrums on a regular basis to help the teams remove impediments
  • B. Formed a separate quality assurance team to test all items coming from each team at the end of each sprint
  • C. Arranged an online session on the integration concept and suggested tools to the teams
  • D. Ensured frequent and continuous integration of work to obtain early feedback and continuous learning

D. Ensured frequent and continuous integration of work to obtain early feedback and continuous learning One of the core principles of Agile is continuous integration. Regularly integrating the work of multiple teams helps catch integration issues early, allowing for timely feedback and adjustments. By ensuring frequent integration, the project manager would have been able to detect problems sooner and avoid a decline in overall product release progress. A (Scrum of Scrums) could help with communication and issue resolution, but it doesn’t directly address the integration problem. B (forming a separate QA team) contradicts Agile principles of shared responsibility for quality. C (arranging an online session) is more of a one-time solution rather than a continuous process improvement. Thus, continuous integration (D) is the most appropriate choice in this scenario.

I guess D was most voted because in A), it was stated that the SOS was to remove the team's impediments, but in this case, each team's progress was on track. The issue is at integration rather than teams' progress.

Selected Answer: A
The Scrum of Scrums is a time-boxed session in which a representative from each Team shares high-level updates on their respective team's work and articulates their progress and impediments.

Selected Answer: D
Voting for D Option A (Performing a Scrum of Scrums) is valuable for coordination and communication among the teams but may not directly address the root cause of the integration issues. The focus should be on preventing integration problems through continuous integration and early feedback rather than solely relying on problem-solving in Scrum of Scrums meetings.
