A project using the agile/adaptive approach has reached the Project Integration Management phase. What is the project manager's key responsibility during this phase?
PMBOK pg. 74 Considerations for Agile Adaptive Environments: PjM's focus is on building a collaborative decision-making environment and ensuring team has ability to respond to changes.
Why the other options are incorrect:
A. Defining the scope of the project – In Agile, scope evolves throughout the project. It's defined incrementally, not in a single phase.
C. Creating a detailed project management plan – Agile uses lightweight, iterative planning (e.g., product roadmaps, release plans) rather than a comprehensive upfront plan.
D. Directing the delivery of the project – In Agile, delivery is team-driven, with the PM acting more as a facilitator or servant leader, not a traditional "director."
This phase emphasizes collaboration, communication, and teamwork among the project's various elements. The project manager plays a crucial role in fostering collaboration, ensuring effective communication channels, and promoting a collaborative environment where team members can work together efficiently to achieve project objectives.
Page 91 in the Agile Practice Guide - Table A1-2 Application of Agile in PMBOK Guide Knowledge Areas, Section 4 Project Integration Management. In the column to the right "Application in an Agile Work Process" it states "The project manager's focus is on building a collaborative decision-making environment and ensuring the team has the ability to respond to changes."
If you see Project Management Process Group and Knowledge Area Mapping table,
we are in Project Integration Management, only option that matches the criteria is Develop Project Management Plan
Would you mind to explain more? I thought Develop Project Management plan is for predictive approach. Does AGILE approach also have a DETAILED project management plan?
this question is poorly written and putting you off. think logically about what you would do in an agile environment. would you create a detailed PMP? no, you would not. you would foster collaboration and ensure that the cross functional team members have the resources needed to complete the iteration at hand.
