A project manager is leading a project to develop a new mobile application. During an informal conversation, a stakeholder asked the project manager to add new features to the current sprint.
What should the project manager do?
A.
Request the stakeholder to wait until the following sprint planning.
B.
Discuss this demand during the following standup meeting.
C.
Accept the change request and negotiate the time line.
D.
Ask the product owner to discuss this request with the stakeholder.
Both options A and D involve requesting that the stakeholder wait and follow the established Agile process. However, option D adds an extra layer of involvement by suggesting that the product owner discusses the request with the stakeholder. This can be beneficial because the product owner is typically responsible for managing the backlog and scope changes. Therefore, option D is the slightly better choice as it involves the relevant role (the product owner) in addressing the stakeholder's request.
Ask the product owner to discuss this request with the stakeholder (recommended in most cases):
Pros: This leverages the product owner's expertise in prioritizing features and managing the backlog. It also avoids the project manager directly accepting or rejecting the request, potentially facilitating a more objective discussion.
Cons: This might involve a slight delay in reaching a decision, but it ultimately fosters collaborative decision-making and ensures alignment with product vision and priorities.
A. PM can´t ensure include it into the following sprint without first evaluate the value and after that the action will be prioritized accordingly
B. Standup meeting is a very quickly meeting and the purpose is not to discuss to add new functions.
C. Accept the change request and negotiate the time line seems a reasonable option aligned with Agile methodology but is the PM the owner to accept the changes or it´s the Product Owner?
D. Ask the product owner to discuss this request with the stakeholder. Seems the better option, Product Owner is the correct person in charge to address the product
Ans:A. The question clearly has a clue that the stakeholder is asking in the middle of a sprint. While asking PO to discuss and understand the requirement is valid, but then it implies that they are accepting to include it in the sprint. Better answer is A which is asking them to wait till next sprint planning, as it is an informal request anyways.
D. Stakeholder request to add the feature in the "current sprint". so PO will evaluate the feature for current sprint. if the feature valuable for the current sprint, PO will add the feature in sprint .
D. Ask the product owner to discuss this request with the stakeholder. The stakeholders must convince the PO on the features to be added to the backlog
