[All PMP Questions]

The project sponsor reports that a key stakeholder is complaining about performance differences in the metrics reported by the project manager, which gives the impression that the project is out of control. The project manager has been providing the project's status according to the agreed-upon communications management plan. This key stakeholder, however, seldom attends the status report meetings.
What should the project manager do first to address this situation?

  • A. Evaluate the communication needs to discover the gaps and adjust the original plan if needed.
  • B. Use the contingency reserves to implement fast tracking and improve the schedule key performance indicators (KPIs).
  • C. Review the resource breakdown structure (RBS) to request the main stakeholder's manager to replace the stakeholder.
  • D. Provide evidence to the project sponsor that the project is on track and the communications have been sent.

For exam purposes, the answer is A which is to check to see if there are gaps in communication and adjust the original plan if need be. However, in real life, I'd be lying if I don't go ahead to show the project sponsor that all is well and good on my end as regards the communication plan and subtly chip in that the said stakeholder hasn't been attending meetings but oh well.....lol

question itself points out that particular stakeholder who claim slippage is not even show's Up. So question is against a well tracked project on which an absentee stakeholder claims under performing . so my answer is D

Selected Answer: A
The first step the project manager should take is to evaluate the communication needs to determine whether there are any gaps or misunderstandings in the current plan. The project manager should then adjust the plan if needed to ensure that the key stakeholder is receiving the necessary information and has a clear understanding of the project's status. It may be necessary to schedule additional meetings with the key stakeholder or to provide them with more frequent updates. Ultimately, the goal should be to address the stakeholder's concerns and maintain a positive relationship with them.

didn't the question say "The project manager has been providing the project's status according to the agreed-upon communications management plan?" Would there be gaps here then?
