Exam 1z0-997-20 topic 1 question 40 discussion

Actual exam question from Oracle's 1z0-997-20
Question #: 40
Topic #: 1
[All 1z0-997-20 Questions]

A retail company has recently adopted a hybrid architecture. They have the following requirements for their end-to-end connectivity model between their on- premises data center and Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) region.
✑ Highly available connection with service level redundancy
✑ Dedicated network bandwidth with low latency
Which connectivity setup is the most cost-effective solution for this scenario? (Choose the best answer.)

  • A. Setup FastConnect virtual circuit as your primary connection, and an IPSec VPN as a backup connection. Use separate edge devices in your on-premises data center for each connection. From your edge devices, advertise more specific routes through FastConnect virtual circuit, and less specific routes through the backup IPSec VPN path.
  • B. Setup IPSec VPN as your primary connection, and a FastConnect virtual circuit as a backup connection. Use separate edge devices in your on-premises data center for each connection. From your edge devices, advertise more specific routes through IPSec VPN, and less specific routes through the backup FastConnect virtual circuit.
  • C. Setup FastConnect virtual circuit as your primary connection, and a second FastConnect virtual circuit as a backup connection. Make sure your FastConnect physical connectivity is redundant. Use a single edge device in your on-premises data center for each connection. From your edge device, advertise more specific routes via primary FastConnect virtual circuit, and less specific routes through the backup FastConnect virtual circuit.
  • D. Setup IPSec VPN as your primary connection, and a second IPSec VPN as a backup connection. Use separate edge devices in your on-premises data center for each connection. From your edge devices, advertise more specific routes via primary IPSec VPN, and less specific routes through the backup IPSec VPN.

I think the answer should be A, as: 1. Service level redundancy doesn't mean SLA. My understanding is that the service should be redundant. See "Have a service level redundancy by creating a IPsec VPN service alongside FC. Oracle always prioritizes FC over VPN connection." in page 45 from https://www.oracle.com/a/ocom/docs/connectivity-fast-connect-200.pdf 2. It has a "Dedicated network bandwidth with low latency" 3. It is "cost-effective".

Ans: C Only FastConnect comes with a 'service level' agreement. You will NEVER get a SLA for a VPN. ALSO, a VPN should NEVER be considered as a reliable low latency solution. By it nature it uses the 'public' internet which will never offer you a SLA or guaranteed speeds. https://www.oracle.com/cloud/sla/

There two keywords here. Kind aa little weird. redundancy and cost effective. in practical i never saw two FC deployed due to cost. So I would pick 'A'

C is the option, the key word is redundant

I keep going between A and C. If you base the answer on the requirements and not the cost, I agree with pc_addict. The answer would be C. Also, the FastConnect documentation, states the following about the SLA. Does FastConnect offer a service level agreement (SLA)? If you are redundantly connected, a 99.9 percent SLA is guaranteed for the FastConnect service. A 1GB FastConnect is only .2125 cents per port hour, so that is ~ $1,861.50 per year. I do not see that as a large cost to meet the service level requirement. (https://www.oracle.com/cloud/networking/fastconnect-pricing.html)

The problem with C is "Use a single edge device in your on-premises data center for each connection"

@jkibbee I agree you theory of cost for ports. But aren't we consider the cost you pay the service provider for the 2nd FC redundant connection. we you need dedicated tunnels for the FC ports so if one goes down other replace it.

Service level redundancy is also key; this means 2 of the same solutions. IPsec is low cost w.r.t. fast connect but not as low latency and high available. Would choose C

I don't think "service level redundancy" means 2 of the same solutions. Sounds like it, but checking on page 45 of "https://www.oracle.com/a/ocom/docs/connectivity-fast-connect-200.pdf doesn't seem to say that. => "Have a service level redundancy by creating a IPsec VPN service alongside FC. Oracle always prioritizes FC over VPN connection."

Though most cost-effective solution is the key, which , makes Option D as a better choice.

"A" makes sense here, you don't use two fast connect, because it is not cost efficient. you don't use two ip-sec because you cannot control bandwidth. hence you can combine these two.

A is right, Latency can not be managed via IPSEC as primary. read https://www.oracle.com/a/ocom/docs/connectivity-fast-connect-200.pdf

D comply with be high available , low latency and it is the most cost effective

you can't guarantee bandwidth and latency with an IPSEc VPN because it goes over the Internet.
