How many DB systems must you provision before you can enable Oracle Data Guard for a virtual machine DB system database?

  • A. It depends on how many standby databases you want for your primary database in the Oracle Data Guard configuration in Oracle Cloud Infrastructure.
  • B. Three, first for the primary database, second for the standby database, and a third for the staging database in the Oracle Data Guard configuration.
  • C. Two for both the primary and standby databases, because a DB system with the database that you want to use as the standby must already exist before you enable Oracle Data Guard.
  • D. Only one for the primary database, because a new DB system is provisioned for the standby database when it is created and associated with the primary database while enabling Oracle Data Guard.

You have to create both primary and standby when using bare metal. It seems the question is about virtual machine.

https://www.oracle.com/a/ocom/docs/high-availability-dataguard-oci-l200.pdf . When you enable Data Guard for a virtual machine DB system database, a new DB system with the standby database is created and associated with the primary database. For a bare metal DB system, the DB system with the database to be used as the standby must already exist before you enable Data Guard(Create a database in the required AD and subnet before you attempt DG association).

Answer D is not correct. This statement is incorrect because the standby DB system must already exist before you can enable Oracle Data Guard. You cannot enable Data Guard by provisioning only one DB system and relying on automatic provisioning of the standby database. Both the primary and standby databases must be set up beforehand. The Correct answer is C Two for both the primary and standby databases, because a DB system with the database that you want to use as the standby must already exist before you enable Oracle Data Guard. This requirement ensures that both the primary and standby databases are available and correctly configured for Data Guard operations.
