Exam NCP-MCI v6.5 topic 1 question 57 discussion

Actual exam question from Nutanix's NCP-MCI v6.5
Question #: 57
Topic #: 1
[All NCP-MCI v6.5 Questions]

A newly hired Nutanix administrator was tasked by the CIO to create a single VM on a test network. The network administrator stated that a native VLAN was used on the Cisco TOR switches with the following parameters:

IP address: 172.16.1.2 -

Network Mask: 258.255.252.0 -

Default gateway: 172.16.1.1 -

VLAN: 1 -
The same parameters were used to create a network profile on Nutanix, but when the VM was created, it had no L3 connectivity.
What should the Nutanix administrator do to fix this issue?

  • A. Use DHCP as opposed to static IP.
  • B. Change VLAN field from vian.1 to vlan.0.
  • C. Nutanix removed support for native VLAN.
  • D. Enable IPv6 on the VM.

Selected Answer: C
The correct answer is B. Change VLAN field from vlan.1 to vlan.0. Explanation: In many networking setups, VLAN 1 is treated as a default or "native" VLAN. However, on Nutanix AHV, if the network administrator specified that a native VLAN was used on the Cisco TOR switches, the correct setting in Nutanix would typically be VLAN 0 to match untagged traffic, which is treated as native VLAN traffic on most switches. Setting the VLAN to 0 allows the VM to use the untagged/native VLAN, ensuring proper Layer 3 connectivity in line with the network configuration on the Cisco switches.

B If native VLan was used in Cisco TOR switches and is the only configured the VM created should be configured to run in VLan 0, not is the best practice but answer this question.
