Why use StorageV1? Microsoft states that V2 should be used whenever possible.

requirements says storage transactional costs to a minimum - so V1. Yes Microsoft recommends V2, but the exam is testing if you know the specific differences on cost

https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/storage/common/storage-account-overview General-purpose v2 storage accounts support the latest Azure Storage features and incorporate all of the functionality of general-purpose v1 and Blob storage accounts. General-purpose v2 accounts deliver the lowest per-gigabyte capacity prices for Azure Storage, as well as industry-competitive transaction prices. General-purpose v2 storage accounts support these Azure Storage services:

Yes, we need to use General Purpose V2 Storage. General-purpose v2 accounts deliver the lowest per-gigabyte capacity prices for Azure Storage, as well as industry-competitive transaction prices. https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/storage/common/storage-account-overview#general-purpose-v2-accounts

Something that could help you: storage GPv1: General-purpose v1 storage accounts provide access to all Azure Storage services, but may not have the latest features or the lowest per gigabyte pricing. For me in this case is better to use Storage GPv2.

As per the recommendation from MS, V2 should be used instead of V1 and prices aren't different too.

Azure recommends V2. VM will have *.vhd extension and needs to be uploaded as Block Storage. as of 17.06.2020: V2 Cost $0.0184 per GB (Type: Hot Storage, LRS, WestUS2) V1 Cost $0.024 per GB (Typ: tiered not available, LRS WestUS2) General-purpose v1 storage accounts enable access to block blobs, page blobs, files, queues, and tables, offering low transaction prices but with higher storage prices. General-purpose v1 accounts do not provide access to Cool or Archive storage. V2 Read/Write Operations per 10.000: $0.004 - $0.05 V1 Read/Write Operations per 10.000: $0.00036 Vor the VM1 console, I do not expect heavy read/write transactions. I would choose V2 Storage. See pricing: https://azure.microsoft.com/en-us/pricing/details/storage/blobs/

But, be aware. The case study requires: ... Pricing Requirements - ADatum identifies the following pricing requirements: ...The transactional charges of Azure Storage accounts must be minimized. This would mean, you should chose V1, instead of V2 :( But on the other hand, azure states: ...For new customers, we generally recommend General Purpose v2 for access to the latest storage features, including Tiered Storage and Archive. We recommend General Purpose v1 and Blob Storage accounts only for customers with prior experience with those accounts, but these customers may also benefit from using GPv2. Learn more about the benefits of different storage account types.... So still confused :) Based on the requirement - transactional costs for storage, I would go with V1, not V2.

Yes. And the question is about VM infrastructure, so, the Storage account for the VM disks should be V2. General-purpose v2 accounts deliver the lowest per-gigabyte capacity prices for Azure Storage

Looks like you still not understood the requirement. This is not required: "...deliver the lowest per-gigabyte capacity prices for Azure Storage...". Please read once more: The pricing requirement is"...the transactional charges of Azure Storage accounts must be minimized...".

@denkes your answer is confusing. Are you supporting V1 or V2. Its really confusing.

take a look at the denkes first post. It says that the cost for transactions (read/write) are cheaper in V1...the question states "deliver the lowest per-gigabyte...the TRANSACTIONAL charges must be MINIMIZES!" That's why v1 is the best choice

Your applications are transaction-intensive or use significant geo-replication bandwidth, but don't require large capacity. In this case, general-purpose v1 may be the most economical choice.

You are right. From official documentation; You can use general-purpose v1 accounts for these scenarios: Your applications require the Azure classic deployment model. General-purpose v2 accounts and Blob storage accounts support only the Azure Resource Manager deployment model. Your applications are transaction-intensive or use significant geo-replication bandwidth, but don't require large capacity. In this case, general-purpose v1 may be the most economical choice. You use a version of the Storage Services REST API that is earlier than 2014-02-14 or a client library with a version lower than 4.x. You can't upgrade your application. https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/storage/common/storage-account-overview
