Exam PL-600 topic 3 question 12 discussion

Actual exam question from Microsoft's PL-600
Question #: 12
Topic #: 3
[All PL-600 Questions]

You are implementing a customer solution that includes the robotic process automation (RPA) capability in Power Automate and a legacy desktop financial software package. The customer has several Azure virtual machines deployed and imaged with the financial software package.
You need to select a connector to integrate with the Azure virtual machines.
What are two possible ways to achieve this goal? Each correct answer presents a complete solution.
NOTE: Each correct selection is worth one point.

  • A. Connection reference and log in information
  • B. Machine registration and desktop flows
  • C. Data gateway and web service endpoints
  • D. Azure VM connector and administrative rights
  • E. Dataflow and Power BI workspace

AB There is no mention of any web service endpoints as this is both a legacy application and remote data. Where are these Service endpoints located, there is no mention of other cloud stuff

I agree AB, Data Gateway are deprecated https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/power-automate/desktop-flows/manage-machines#switch-from-gateways-to-direct-connectivity

Answer is BD In Power Automate, the desktop flow is used for robotic process automation (RPA), which allows automation of desktop applications. Machine registration allows the virtual machines to be registered with the Power Automate Desktop environment, enabling RPA actions to be performed on the Azure VMs. Desktop flows can be used to automate tasks on these machines, which is the core functionality of RPA in this scenario. This option integrates the virtual machine environment with Power Automate Desktop flows to enable automation. While there are Azure VM connectors available for managing virtual machines (e.g., to start/stop VMs), the administrative rights part is not directly related to the RPA functionality required in this case. Administrative rights are typically needed to perform certain actions on VMs, but this option doesn’t fully address the RPA integration with the financial software.

The one area in Power Platform that I do not use in real life is Desktop Flows. That being said, Connection references are used with Power Automate flows and not desktop flows. That, I do use all the time. The answers are B and D. You can use the Azure VM connector with a desktop flow so you can ACTUALLY communicate with the VM machines. It is definitely NOT C. You can install a data gateway on a VM to use to connect to many different Azure resources (I've done this many times), but not for a desktop flow in this scenario.

And to clarify...desktop flows cannot use a connection reference in this scenario to connect to a legacy financial software. What would be the actual connection to reference to?

Why not D, as we need to interact directly to the VM?

why C is right ?? I am not sure. So, for me, B is sure and A, you can reuse the connection in B for another flow.

The gateway is to connect the cloud to on-prem data sources. so not the answer. Azure VM connector allows us to take some actions on the VMs. so, not a good answer. Dataflow and Power BI Workspace are for Data migration and Reporting. Doesn't seem relevant. So, I also go with A and B

Correct ... Connecting your machine directly to Power Automate and the cloud allows you to harness the full power of your robotic process automation (RPA). https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/power-automate/desktop-flows/manage-machines
