Azure Functions is the new kid on the block in the Azure platform. It’s a key ingredient of serverless compute that’s needed to achieve the benefits of a cloud PaaS implementation. Azure Functions turns the focus to the value of the code and away from managing infrastructure. https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/archive/msdn-magazine/2017/february/azure-serverless-architecture-with-azure-functions My answer is YES, YES, YES

I am tired of second guessing the answers ... Azure Functions was given as PaaS example in several training materials I completed. I paid for AZ-900 to eliminate confusion, not to increase it

The answer should be YYY. CoPilot: Yes, Azure Functions is considered a Platform as a Service (PaaS). It enables you to run event-driven code without having to manage infrastructure, automatically scaling to meet your needs. This means you can focus on building and deploying applications while Azure handles the operational aspects.Azure Functions is also considered a Function as a Service (FaaS). It allows you to deploy individual functions that execute in response to events, abstracting away the need to manage servers or infrastructure. This makes it perfect for event-driven and microservices architectures.

YYY. Azure Functions is primarily categorized as Function as a Service (FaaS) because it allows you to run event-driven code without managing the underlying infrastructure. However, it can also be considered part of the broader Platform as a Service (PaaS) category because it provides a platform for building and deploying applications without worrying about the hardware or software infrastructure.

to be fair, FAAS is not really mentioned in the curriculum

According to Microsoft "Functions as a service (FaaS): Lets you deploy your code to the service, which automatically runs it. Azure Functions is a FaaS service.", therefore they are not counting it as a PaaS service. See the "Understanding the Hosting Models" sectionhttps://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/architecture/guide/technology-choices/compute-decision-tree

YYY Azure Functions is a serverless platform as a service (PaaS) in Azure that runs small, single-task code without requiring new infrastructure to be spun up. Re: https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/architecture/hybrid/azure-functions-hybrid

Infrastructure as a service (IaaS): Lets you provision VMs along with the associated networking and storage components. Then you can deploy whatever software and applications you want onto those VMs. This model is the closest to a traditional on-premises environment. Microsoft manages the infrastructure. You still manage the VMs. Platform as a service (PaaS): Provides a managed hosting environment where you can deploy your application without needing to manage VMs or networking resources. Azure App Service and Azure Container Apps are PaaS services. Functions as a service (FaaS): Lets you deploy your code to the service, which automatically runs it. Azure Functions is a FaaS service.
