Actual exam question from Microsoft's MS-720
Question #: 1
Topic #: 3
[All MS-720 Questions]

DRAG DROP -
Your company has offices in Seattle.
You deploy Microsoft Teams Phone. You have three Session Border Controller (SBCs) named SBC1, SBC2, and SBC3.
You need to configure voice routing to meet the following requirements:
✑ All calls to area codes 425 and 206 must attempt to go to SBC1, and if SBC1 is unavailable, fail over to SBC2.
✑ All other calls to the United States and Canada must go out through SBC2.
✑ International calls must go out through SBC2 or SBC3.
How should you complete the PowerShell script? To answer, drag the appropriate values to the correct targets. Each value may be used once, more than once, or not at all. You may need to drag the split bar between panes or scroll to view content.
NOTE: Each correct selection is worth one point.

I think the answer should be: SBC1 SBC2 SBC2 and SBC3 By having SBC1 and SBC2 in the same route for the Redmond calls, SBC1 and SBC2 will be tried in a random order - requirement is for SBC1 to always be tried first. If you have just SBC1 in the Redmond route, then it will try the US&Canada route if SBC1 is failed so long as there is a PSTN usage defined with both Redmond and US&Canada routes in the same usage. Not a great question because we don't know what the PSTN usages look like...

Agreed. In https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/microsoftteams/direct-routing-voice-routing it clearly states: "while the voice route is assigned priorities, the SBCs in the routes are tried in random order". To have calls failover from SBC1 to SBC2 you would need additional configuration (which could be via PSTN usages as you noted; using the -failoverresponsecodes switch could also be in use). With the absence of add'l information I agree that SBC1 is the best answer for the first, and we assume the failover requirement is covered with add'l configuration. As you say, not a great question.

1. SBC1 and SBC2 2. SBC2 3.SBC2 and SBC3 Reference https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/microsoftteams/direct-routing-trunk-failover-on-outbound-call In the following diagram, when a user makes a call to a phone number, there are two SBCs in the route that can potentially deliver this call. Initially, SBC1.contoso.com is selected for the call, but SBC1.contoso.com isn't able to reach a PTSN network due to a network issue. By default, the call will be completed at this moment. Diagram showing SBC unable to reach PSTN due to network issue. But there is one more SBC in the route which potentially can deliver the call. If you configure the parameter Set-CSOnlinePSTNGateway -Identity sbc1.contoso.com -FailoverResponseCodes "408", the second SBC will be tried-- SBC2.contoso.com in the following diagram:

SBC1, SBC2, SBC 2 and 3 ("In both examples, while the voice route is assigned priorities, the SBCs in the routes are tried in random order.") https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/microsoftteams/direct-routing-voice-routing

Hi all, sbc1 and sbc2 for route1 is not correct. Because "If two (or more) SBCs in one route are considered healthy and equal, Fisher-Yates shuffle is applied to distribute the calls between the SBCs." https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/microsoftteams/direct-routing-monitor-and-troubleshoot.

it is SBC1 > SBC2 and then SBC2 & 3 all SBC's listed in a voice route will be tried in a round robin - that's a basic rule of voice routing

Answer should be SBC1 SBC2 SBC2 and SBC3 If Dialed number is with Redmond NPA number, it shall choose SBA1 If SBA1 fails, Calls to Redmond NPA shall take the second route and go through SBA2 since the dialed number is still national number, which start with +1. If it is any other NPA code, call shall take second route and send to SBC2 For any international calls (which does not start with +1) , SBC2 or SBC3 shall be selected randomly. Hence all conditions are satisfied.

Three voice routes, three priorities. Voice Route 1 Priority 1 SBC1, VR2 PRI2 SBC2, VR3 PRI3 SBC2 SBC3. failover will take place if more than one voice route exist and failover from the top priority to the lowest one.

https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/microsoftteams/direct-routing-trunk-failover-on-outbound-call Based on this the answer provided is correct.( there is the failover config required) SBC1 and SBC2 SBC2 SBC2 and SBC3 .

I would stay with answer. for failover both SBC's need to be listed so SBC1,SBC2 ; SBC2 ; SBC2 and SBC 3. I understand if 2 SBC's are listed it uses round robin or Pseudo Random Selection But If SBC 2 isn't listed in the top answer, and SBc1 is not available, it will fail.

No need to be listed in the same route, you only need to define that SBC1 in the "Redmond" policy should use Priority 1. By best practice you would create a new route called "Redmond2" and define there the SBC2 as a Priority 2 GW and then you have your failover route. Ref: https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/microsoftteams/direct-routing-voice-routing So I agree with Stove1 but the issue description and the solutions are very poorly described in this question.
