Answer is E. Device3 and Device4 Only. Microsoft state in the key capabilities of Azure AD joined devices: "Enterprise State Roaming across devices" Microsoft do not state this in the key capabilities of Azure AD registered Devices. I have provided links to both pages below to support this. Check the "Key Capabilites" in the table in the references provided. Microsoft seem to be very inconsistent with their documentation regarding this. I have now found the following statement on a Microsoft document regarding ESR troubleshooting: "Enterprise State Roaming requires the device to be registered with Azure AD." https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/active-directory/devices/enterprise-state-roaming-troubleshooting#:~:text=Verify%20the%20device,Client%20is%20registered

You're right the documentation is very confusing. But on your link if you keep reading, on the point 3, it says: "For expected output, the AzureAdJoined field value should be “YES”.

We need more discussion on this topic. I can't find anything about Intune and ESR. Being Azure AD joined, (not registered) seems to be the key. It seems Azure AD registered (employee owned) devices are not included in ESR. Other thoughts or reference links? From what I can find E. I searched far and wide but I can't really find a lot of resources on wether devices should be Azure AD joined or registered. One of the things I could find was: The first thing you need to do when troubleshooting Enterprise State Roaming is check your configuration. This includes ensuring that Windows 10 has the latest updates installed, check that the device which is having issues is Azure AD joined, and as we've just seen, you'll need to ensure that you've enabled Enterprise State Roaming in the Azure AD admin center. What syncs with enterprise state roaming? Enterprise State Roaming is a feature for Windows 10 users that are using a device which is Azure AD device registered (either AAD joined or hybrid joined). User gain the ability to securely synchronize their user and application settings data to the Microsoft cloud.

For a Windows 10 or newer device to use the Enterprise State Roaming service, the device must authenticate using an Azure AD identity. For devices that are joined to Azure AD, the user’s primary sign-in identity is their Azure AD identity, so no other configuration is required. For devices that use on-premises Active Directory, the IT admin must Configure hybrid Azure Active Directory joined devices.

I am going with E based on this comment: Verify sync, and the “Sync your settings” settings page After joining your Windows 10 or newer PC to a domain that is configured to allow Enterprise State Roaming, sign on with your work account. Go to Settings > Accounts > Sync Your Settings and confirm that sync and the individual settings are on, and that the top of the settings page indicates that you are syncing with your work account It clearly says after"JOINING" your Windows 10 or newer PC. https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/active-directory/devices/enterprise-state-roaming-troubleshooting#preliminary-steps-for-troubleshooting

Wrong. You set this on Azure, not Endpoint) > Devices | Enterprise State Roaming. Answer is E.

Copy and paste from Official documentation for MD-101: "Enterprise State Roaming syncs settings across Azure AD joined devices and provides users with the same experience across their devices". And from this link https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/active-directory/devices/enterprise-state-roaming-troubleshooting you can see : "2. The device is Azure AD joined or hybrid Azure AD joined. For more information, see how to get a device under the control of Azure AD" For me the correct answer is E.

Check out contrasting articles from Microsoft: This one - https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/active-directory/devices/concept-azure-ad-register does not show that registered devices can use Enterprise State Roaming. While this one - https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/active-directory/devices/concept-azure-ad-join does show that. Also, this one -https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/active-directory/devices/concept-azure-ad-join-hybrid shows devices that are hybrid AAD joined can utilize Enterprise State Roaming. Therefore only Joined and Hybrid-Joined, not merely Registered devices, will benefit from the ESR feature.

Cant see anywhere on that link that mentions 'registered'... Registered = BYOD, Joined = Full Fat Experience. That article mentions Joined or Hybrid Joined only. Makes the logical answer E.

If you sign in to an Azure AD PC that is either registered or joined, the PC will download your settings from Azure when enterprise roaming is enabled on an other device signed in with the same user.

I would go with answer E: Devices 3 and 4 They're Azure AD joined so User1 would authenticate when they login. The Azure Registered devices could be BYOD, local login account and 'not syncing' (they're not referenced below). https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/active-directory/devices/enterprise-state-roaming-enable#view-per-user-device-sync-status For a Windows 10 device to use the Enterprise State Roaming service, the device must authenticate using an Azure AD identity.
