I believe B is the only right answer, as KPI's are the only option here that can use alerts

Th KPI tile needs to be pinned to a dashboard to allow alerts to be set up. Can be done with option B or D. So both should be correct.

Alerts can only be set on tiles pinned from report visuals, and only on gauges, KPIs, and cards.

D is the correct Answer. The question clearly states that the report containing KPI, table and line chart is what users are interested in. So this is the information required on the dashboard along with alerts. So what should you do first? 1. Pin the entire report to dashboard (Ans D) 2. THEN set an alert on the KPI tile

B is correct. Alerts can only be set on tiles pinned from report visuals, and only on gauges, KPIs, and cards. Link: https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/power-bi/create-reports/service-set-data-alerts

D not right becoz pin the entire report means live page, we cannot set alerts in live page, only working on single visual. https://community.powerbi.com/t5/Service/Not-able-to-create-a-Data-alerts-in-Dashboard-in-Power-BI/td-p/683091

Question is stating "What should you do first?". Although alerts can only be set to KPI, Card and Gauge visualizations in Power BI Service.

yes you have to select kpi first to select manage alerts as alert option is not a/v on report->.....->pin to dashboard(here you can only pin to dash board but if you select kpi-->....-->manage alerts-->then you add more than one charts depends on the visuals.

I have pinned a whole report page containing KPI, card and gauge to a new dashboard. From the new dashboard there is no way to manage alert. However if I pin only the KPI or gauge or card individually to the dashboard, I can manage alert. So I think B is the correct answer

Regarding answer B or D: "Alerts can only be set on tiles pinned from report visuals, and only on gauges, KPIs, and cards. Alerts can be set on visuals created from streaming datasets that you pin from a *report to a dashboard*. Alerts can't be set on streaming tiles created directly on the dashboard using Add tile > Custom streaming data" Must have PREMIUM capacity as well - here's the link to muddy the waters! https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/power-bi/create-reports/service-set-data-alerts

Furthermore: KPI's can NOT be pinned to a dashboard. "KPI based chart can be created on Power BI report but cannot be pinned on Power BI dashboard. Want to know when this feature will get available in PowerBI. Hm, i don't know how you get this information, but i tested...i created KPI in report (Power BI Desktop), data source was on-premises SQL database. I published report to Power BI service, pinned KPI from report to Dashboard, then set up alert from Dashboard. I didn't get any error or warrning during this procedure. With streaming dataset...there is only limitation how you crate a tile in Dashboard. If you create a tile (gauge, KPI or card) in Dashboard from report (which is using streaming dataset), you can set up alert. If you create a tile (which is using streaming dataset) directly from Dashboard, you can't set up alert. Generally, you can use alerts only on gauges, KPIs and chards. So, correct answer should be B.

Rhetorical question "What is the definition of live" in the context of the question? My understanding is either any user can refresh or a user can automate; at the point it is refreshed is when the value of the number of Customers can change so it has to be a live report. Now you can only set an alert on a KPI (also gage and card) pinned to a dashboard. I am sure we all agree on this so far. So it leaves us with either B) or D). It is the dataset that when refreshed can be the earliest point when the system can determine the business rule of the alert that the "count of customers has reached 10,000" so it should not be dependent on the type of visual but apparently it does. Maybe say for card that say shows me the count of customers it becomes relevant or makes sense because this actually shows me the actual count. The documentation on another page says "Alerts can be set on visuals created from streaming datasets that you pin from a report to a dashboard", so to me it saying it is not the visual but the dataset, the visuals is the means not the cause so it has to answer D)

Agreed to twane - Also tried and tested. Answer is B, not D: https://community.powerbi.com/t5/Service/Not-able-to-create-a-Data-alerts-in-Dashboard-in-Power-BI/td-p/683091 The option simply doesn't show if you live pin the report.

B. Alerts can only be set up on tiles (Cards, KPIs, Gauges) pinned to a Dashboard. Pinning the entire report page to a dashboard doesn't reveal "Manage Alerts"

In fact A report includes of different visualixations like kpis, line charts,... and can not be pinned to a dashboard. we can pin each object like kpi gages to dashboard and set alerts to that
