You have a Microsoft 365 subscription.
All users have their email stored in Microsoft Exchange Online
In the mailbox of a user named User, you need to preserve a copy of all the email messages that contain the word ProjectX.
What should you do first?

  • A. From the Exchange admin center, start a mail flow message trace.
  • B. From the Security & Compliance admin center, start a message trace.
  • C. From the Security & Compliance admin center, create a label and label policy.
  • D. From the Exchange admin center, create a mail flow rule.
Show Suggested Answer Hide Answer
Suggested Answer: C 🗳️
When you configure conditions for a label, you can automatically assign a label to a document or email. In this case, we would create a label to label all email messages that contain the word ProjectX. We would then create a label policy to preserve a copy of all message that have the label assigned.

Mail Flow would make sense for any NEW emails, but does not address existing ones, so it would have to be a label situation.

Selected Answer: C
My first thought was eDiscovery but guess you could apply a label based on a custom sensitivity type that uses a keyword.

It can be done by: Create Labels-->Auto-apply a label in Label policies, you can specify words. Therefore C is correct.

C. - PRESERVE A COPY. Even if new mail comes in, the label policy can PRESERVE both new and existing copy with the word ProjectX

But in Label or Retention policy, is there any option to search for like ProjectX? As far as i tested in the lab, while creating the label it just ask for whether to retain or delete and the location only. In the location, choose Exchange and specify the user, thats it. I dont see any option to mention the search word. I'm not sure about the other answers, but to me C is not the correct one.

I think its correct - in order to apply the label using any of the options listed it will have to be created first, in order for you to select it.

eDiscovery is not the only way to achieve its objective. The question and answer make sense as well as it's correct.

Answer C is correct but reference link provided is wrong. Instead of AIP label, a retention label and a policy will be required to automatically apply the label to emails with keyword.

Labeling the message is not the same thing as preserving a copy. So a mail flow rule may indeed be the better answer.

We can create a mail flow policy, set bcc and preserve the email in another mailbox.

You can't create a mail flow policy for mails already in the user's mailbox. Retention Label to hold content is the solution
