I feel the correct answer should be File 1 & 2, for both the options. There is no mention that retention policy is configured to mark the file as record, so technically user can delete the file and automatically a copy will be kept in preservation hold.

Retention1 surely has the "Retain items for a specific period" because is the only one that allow you to select the "Deactivate retention settings". Retention2 could can has both "Retain items..." or "Enforce actions..." (labeled items won't be retained) options applied but I assume that has the "Enforce actions" because if we need to retain the item simply we should configure Retention1 for 3 years. May 15, 2023: File2 only Aug 15, 2024: File1 only

idk. it's not a record so it could delete them, and you'll find them in the Preservation Hold library... which is the true way?
