Selected Answer: D
D. Microsoft Deployment Toolkit (MDT) The other options are not suitable for this scenario. Autopilot requires an Azure AD Premium subscription and a Microsoft Intune subscription, which would increase the licensing costs. In fact, there's no mention of them having anything in Azure, period. Just AD on-prem. Configuration Manager requires a deployment infrastructure, such as a distribution point and a management point, which would also increase the costs and complexity. Subscription activation only updates the edition and not W10 to W11.

Merrybob is correct. The question asks for the most cost effective solution. Given the company already owns their licenses and on premise infrastructure of at lease one domain controller (and assumed only 1 according to the question) you would be adding a cost by requiring subscription activation. Not to mention the work hours in setting up the tenant in Azure.

Microsoft Deployment Toolkit (MDT) is a free tool provided by Microsoft that helps with the deployment of Windows operating systems, including upgrades from Windows 10 to Windows 11. It enables you to automate the deployment process, manage large-scale upgrades, and reduce manual intervention. Since your company doesn’t currently have a deployment infrastructure, MDT is a cost-effective solution that doesn't incur additional licensing costs.

Subscription activation is available for qualifying devices running currently supported versions of Windows. Subscription activation can't be used to upgrade to a newer version of Windows.

WIndows subscription only upgrade the licence if the currect Windows edtition is the same as the licence. In this case, an in=place upgrade to Windows 11 should be sufficent. This can be archived by using MDT.

No, Subscription activation can't be used to upgrade to a newer version of Windows. Please avoid the use of ChatGPT to help other try to figure out what is the correct answer, it is required to think a little bit on the context of the question.

Not by Subscription activation if that is what you mean. That is to upgrade PRO to ENT within the same Windows version.

None of the answers seem correct, especially subscription activation. My take on this would be to presume they have servers which they must have since they have AD DS and to use MDT which is free, and possibly using it with WDS which is also an included role or config manager (if that's free too not sure). If I get this question I think I will go with MDT

Selected Answer: D
Given the scenario where you aim to minimize licensing costs while upgrading the 100 Windows 10 computers to Windows 11, the most cost-effective solution would likely be using the Microsoft Deployment Toolkit (MDT), which is a free deployment tool. Therefore, the recommended option would be: D. Microsoft Deployment Toolkit (MDT) MDT allows for centralized deployment of Windows operating systems, applications, and other settings. While options like Windows Autopilot or Configuration Manager offer additional functionalities, they might involve additional costs or infrastructure requirements, making MDT the more cost-effective choice in this scenario.

According to Bard, Windows Autopilot can upgrade a computer with Windows 10 to Windows 11. This process is called Windows Autopilot feature update. To upgrade a device using Windows Autopilot feature update, you will need to create a Windows Autopilot profile that specifies the desired Windows 11 edition and feature update. When the device is enrolled in Autopilot, it will automatically download and install the specified feature update. It is Free but requires Intune
