B: Taking all things into account, the custom connector wouldn't be able to talk to SQL directly as there are no gateways, or Azure relay or any other thing running on the On-premise side to receive the custom connector call and then insert the data.. So no its not possible with this configuration

While PowerApps can't talk directly to the on-premise SQL Server Database without a Gateway, a SQL Server can be made public and be accessed through the Custom Connector, so this solution is possible.

In my opinion, the custom connector could solve the issue of writing to the SQL database... it would be enough to have an API service that handles the writing. However, in my view, it wouldn't make sense because by activating the custom connector, the application becomes premium... and at that point, the simplest solution would be: Power Apps - collects approval data Power Apps passes the data to Flow, which creates an approval workflow. If approved, it uses the SQL Server connector configured on the data source declared in the gateway for writing to the database. Gateways
