In GRUB Legacy, the option used in the configuration file to define the amount of time that the GRUB menu will be shown to the user is:

The `timeout` option specifies the time, in seconds, that the GRUB menu will be displayed before the default boot entry is automatically selected and executed.
A voting comment increases the vote count for the chosen answer by one.
