Hmm... It would seem as add might actually be correct. If I'm reading the manpage right, if modify is used, then add: or replace: must follow the changetype otherwise if changetype is add, then you can simple just list the items you would want to add?

You are wrong. You can obvious see "changetype: modify" in the page you mentioned.
