Unified ISSU ( In-Service Software Upgrade)
- Enables upgrades between two different versions of Junos OS without service interruption
on the control plane
- Eliminates network downtime during software image upgrades
- Reduces operating costs while delivering higher service levels
- Enables rapid implementation of new features.
Unified In-Service Software Upgrade (Unified ISSU) lets you upgrade from one version to another
of Junos OS without any disruption to the control plane, and with minimal disruption to traffic.
Unified ISSU is only supported on the dual Routing Engine platform. In addition, GRES
(Grieful Routing Engine switchover) and NSR (Non-Stop Active Routing) functions must be enabled.
"This architectural design also makes possible the incorporation of high availability features like graceful Routing Engine switchover (GRES), nonstop active routing (NSR), and unified in-service software upgrades (ISSUs)."
