CONFIGURATION ITEM: Any component that needs to be managed in order to deliver an IT Service. Configuration items (CI's) can be hardware, software, networks, buildings, people, suppliers, and documentation. Services are also treated as Cis. Information about the configuration items and the relationships between them are kept in the configuration management system (CMS) and the configuration management databases (CMDB)
IT ASSET: Any financially valuable component that can contribute to the delivery of an IT product or service. IT assets include hardware, software, data, cloud services and other resources that an organization uses to deliver value to customers. Information about IT assets are kept in the asset register.
c ITIL® 4 defines a CI as any component that needs to be managed in order to deliver an IT service. ISO/IEC 20000:2018 says a CI is any element that needs to be controlled in order to deliver a service
