Portability in cloud computing refers to the ability to easily move data, applications, and workloads from one cloud provider to another without excessive restrictions. Digital Rights Management (DRM) and Data Loss Prevention (DLP) solutions, while useful for security, can actually hinder portability by restricting how data is accessed, copied, or transferred.
Techniques to Enhance Cloud Portability:
A. Ensure there are no physical limitations to moving → Prevents storage or network constraints from limiting data migration.
C. Ensure favorable contract terms to support portability → Contracts should include exit strategies and data extraction clauses.
D. Avoid proprietary data formats → Using open, standardized formats makes migration easier and reduces vendor lock-in.
