Out of the given options, the two most likely reasons for clustering servers in a Microsoft-based network are: C. Failover: This is a primary benefit of server clustering. By grouping multiple servers together, if one server fails, another can seamlessly take over its workload, minimizing downtime and data loss. This is crucial for ensuring high availability of critical applications and services. D. Load balancing: With multiple servers working together, the workload can be distributed among them, improving overall performance and responsiveness. This is especially beneficial for handling large surges in traffic or resource-intensive tasks.

The likely reasons for clustering in a Microsoft-based network are: C. Failover D. Load balancing Explanation: C. Failover: Clustering provides failover capabilities, ensuring high availability by automatically redirecting traffic and services to a standby server in case of a failure on the active server. D. Load balancing: Clustering helps distribute network traffic and workload evenly across multiple servers to optimize resource utilization and prevent bottlenecks. This ensures efficient use of server resources and enhances performance.

Selected Answer: CD
Answer is C,D. Explanation: Clustering provides two advantages. The first is failover. Should one server fail, the second in the cluster can continue working with no interruption in service to customers. This is particularly important with database servers. If one fails, in a clustered environment the customer will not even know the main database server is down. Clustering also provides load balancing. This is critical for Web servers in high volume e-commerce situations. Clustering allows the load to be distributed over many computers rather than focused on a single server.

From experience I've found that the initial reason would have been C. But over time and through lack of investment managers move to D simply on the basis that "there's a server sitting there not doing anything - why can't we use it?"
