D. Disruption to the production environment.
The greatest inherent risk when performing a disaster recovery plan test is the potential disruption to the production environment. If the DRP test is not well-planned and executed, it can result in unintended consequences such as data loss, system outages, or other disruptions to critical business processes. This can have a significant impact on the organization and its customers, potentially leading to lost revenue, damaged reputation, and other negative outcomes. For this reason, it is important to minimize the risk of disruption during DRP testing by thoroughly planning and testing the procedures in a controlled environment, and ensuring that all stakeholders are aware of the test and its potential impact.
The answer should be B - and here's why:
When performing a disaster recovery plan test... how would you disrupt your production environment? That shouldn't be an inherited risk because it should be done in a test environment. Therefore, poor documentation and lessons learned is the greatest inherent risk.
Inherent risk = remaining risk after remediation /control in place etc. Which means the DRP process is already done. The remaining risk is no proper documentation so the lesson learned and other missed steps or consideration can be addressed.
drp could be conducted in a parallel environment as well, hence eliminating option D, I mean which large organisation doesnt have a parallel site and which organisation would be willing to risk production time over drp testing, unless if downtime is granted, best option is definately B
D. Disruption to the production environment
The greatest inherent risk when performing a disaster recovery plan (DRP) test is typically the disruption to the production environment. During a DRP test, you intentionally invoke and test the recovery procedures to ensure they work as intended. This can involve temporarily taking systems offline, switching to backup infrastructure, or performing other actions that can disrupt normal operations.
