Selected Answer: A
The way I understand the question is that where should the detectors not be placed. Usually they are not placed inside the ventilation system. All other options are fine.

C. Above the Ceiling is the correct answer: This is the most concerning location because smoke, heat, or water may accumulate unnoticed above a drop ceiling, which is typically used for cabling and other infrastructure components. D. Under the Floor: Many data centers and sensitive environments use raised floors for cabling, and placing detectors under the floor is crucial for early detection of water leaks or other issues. This location is important, but it’s generally accessible and specifically monitored.

Selected Answer: B
B. Around cooling units Cooling units are critical components of data centers and IT facilities, and they can be prone to malfunctions or leaks, which could lead to environmental hazards such as overheating, water damage, or fire. Placing detectors around cooling units allows for early detection of any abnormalities or incidents, enabling prompt response and mitigation measures to prevent damage to IT equipment and data loss.

Selected Answer: C
Placing environmental detectors above the ceiling may result in delayed detection of heat, water leaks, or smoke, as these detectors may not have direct access to the areas where such incidents typically occur. Heat and smoke tend to rise, while water leaks can originate from overhead pipes or equipment. Placing detectors above the ceiling may lead to delayed or ineffective detection of these environmental hazards, increasing the risk of damage to IT infrastructure and assets. Therefore, this location should be of greatest concern to an IS auditor when evaluating environmental detector placement.
