Exam CBAP topic 1 question 315 discussion

Actual exam question from IIBA's CBAP
Question #: 315
Topic #: 1
[All CBAP Questions]

A big construction company has grown into a group of 17 companies spread across the country. The rationale behind forming the group was to become more competitive in bidding for federal and regional government contracts. Another reason was to increase consolidated profitability by lowering the cost of materials and using combined assets more efficiently. Disjointed technological capabilities of the individual companies impede gathering the data needed to make decisions on both handling materials and allocating the resources.
What improvement opportunity does this represent?

  • A. Create a business model canvas to outline business needs
  • B. Deploy a new system across the companies
  • C. Enhance access to the relevant information
  • D. Develop a repository of information from each company

C is correct according to me . Disjointed Technological capabilities of the individual companies impede gathering the data needed to make decisions on both handling materials and allocating the resources.

Selected Answer: C
Improving access to relevant information across the group of companies (Option C) is correct as this would address the issue of disjointed technological capabilities and facilitate better decision-making regarding handling materials and resource allocation

I "think" the improvement opportunity here is "enhanced access to the relevant information" by developing a centralized repository of information.

B should be the answer. As the systems are disjoint, it's not a question of access. the basic infra to get the info is not there. hence I will go with B

i believe c is right. Question is about improvement opportunity-so i think A might not be relevant. a new system across 17 companies is difficult and costly.and i believe each company might have their own database(for data storage). So having a centralized repository or enhancing access to information might be a good option in my opinion

Ans B but maybe D. in the question: "Disjointed technological capabilities of the individual companies impede gathering the data needed" – This is stating technology is lacking. A new system across companies would make the most sense.

Another reason was to increase consolidated profitability by lowering the cost of materials and using combined assets more efficiently. The disjointed technological capabilities of the individual companies are a setback, and they need access to consolidated resources to reduce their decision-making overheads for handling materials and allocating resources. They already have a repository, but they are disjointed; if you enhance access to the relevant information, you also create the opportunity to close the gap of common information access. I also think it's C
