The Cable Communications Policy Act of 1984 regulates the notice a cable television provider must furnish to customers, the ability of cable providers to collect personal information, the ability of cable providers to disseminate personal information and the retention and destruction of personal information by cable television providers. At the time of entering into an agreement to provide cable services, and on an annual basis thereafter, cable service providers are required to give subscribers a privacy notice that “clearly and conspicuously” informs subscribers of (1) the nature of the personal information collected, (2) how such information will be used, (3) the retention period of such information, and (4) the manner by which a subscriber can access and correct such information.

Selected Answer: A
The Cable Communications Policy Act of 1984 established guidelines to protect the privacy of cable television subscribers. One of its key provisions is the requirement for cable operators to provide subscribers with an annual notice. This notice must detail the nature of personally identifiable information collected, how it will be used, under what conditions it may be disclosed, and the rights of subscribers regarding this information. This act aims to ensure that subscribers are informed about their privacy rights and the use of their personal information by cable service providers.
