You are sizing a new Dell EMC SC Series array. Upon analyzing the Live Optics report, you find the current system has a peak throughput of 4687 MB. What is the minimum number of 10Gb iSCSI front-end ports required to meet the throughput needs?
Hi Folks, I believe that the correct answer is A = 8 ports.
the design front-end connections on SC series are 600MBs each 10Gb iSCSI port.
Also, the maximum front-end ports that you can achieve on the SC series are 8. So if you need more throughput than 8x 10Gb iSCSI ports are able to deliver, you'll need to go for FC front-end.
According to the SC Series sizing course notes:
"Why size front-end ports based on double the peak throughput? Remember that in a
clustered or dual-controller design, it is best practice to account for operation of the
array in a failover condition. When a dual-controller solution is in production, the
active-active controllers share the total front-end throughput. If a controller is down for
maintenance or as the result of failure, the single remaining controller will handle
100% of the front-end traffic."
SO I think 10Gb = 600MB/s therefore 4687/600 = 7.8 = 8 cards per controller which will bring the total front end ports to a minimum of 16. So answer would be D. Got similar question in EMC practise exam right with this reasoning.
what if the question is - You are sizing a new Dell EMC SC Series array. Upon analyzing the Live Optics report, you find the current system has a peak throughput of 8932 MB.
What is the minimum number of 16Gb FC front-end ports required to meet the throughput needs?
Check page 57 on the participant guide for SC sizing if you have access to the ODLC.
16Gb FC = 1600 MB/s (1.6GB/s)
8Gb FC = 800 MB/s
1Gb iSCSI = 60MB/s
10Gb iSCSI and FCOE = 600 MB/s
So 8932 / 1600 = 5.5825 --> 6 ports and the 2x for redundancy
So 12 ports minimum.
