This is most likely the issue but it isn't always. One frustrating issue is a mobile device not fixing itself. Apple devices have had notorious issues with the internal antenna breaking and requiring replacement to work. While this is uncommon, be prepared to search the model you are investigating if airplane mode isn't the issue. Also software updates can cause this issue, sim card issues, and more. Remember, CompTia is about making YOU the best professional you can be and just because you know the answer to the test doesn't mean you should stop digging deeper and pursue more knowledge.
I am totally agree with this answer, I have been working with cell phones from last 3 years and it is 90 out of 100 times either airplane mode or a software and then an antenna underneath a screen.
When i put my phone in airplane mode i'm not able to receive and send calls but i CAN access wifi. Airplane mode Kill mobile connection and shutdown wifi, but the wifi can be turned on WHILE the phone is still in airplaine mode.
