A technician installed an 8-port switch in a user's office. The user needs to add a second computer in the office, so the technician connects both PCs to the switch and connects the switch to the wall jack. However, the new PC cannot connect to network resources. The technician then observes the following:
✑ The new computer does not get an IP address on the client's VLAN.
✑ Both computers have a link light on their NICs.
✑ The new PC appears to be operating normally except for the network issue.
✑ The existing computer operates normally.
Which of the following should the technician do NEXT to address the situation?

  • A. Contact the network team to resolve the port security issue.
  • B. Contact the server team to have a record created in DNS for the new PC.
  • C. Contact the security team to review the logs on the company's SIEM.
  • D. Contact the application team to check NetFlow data from the connected switch.

Selected Answer: A
A. Contact the network team to resolve the port security issue. Since the new computer does not get an IP address on the client's VLAN, it's likely that the issue is related to the switch's port security. The network team would be best equipped to troubleshoot and resolve this issue.

I don't see what the port security issue would be. Nothing leads to that conclusion.

Selected Answer: B
If the link light is on, then that would eliminate a port security issue. The fact that it the second computer doesn't get an ip address points to a DHCP or DNS issue.

Selected Answer: B
Im going with B they said the link light for both of the computers so its not a port security issue. Also the computer cannot access to the network resources = DNS recorded needed

Chat gpt ” Since both computers have a link light on their NICs, the physical connectivity between the computers and the switch is confirmed. In this case, the issue may not be related to port security on the switch. **B. Contact the server team to have a record created in DNS for the new PC.** If the new PC is not receiving an IP address on the client's VLAN, it's possible that there may be an issue with DHCP (Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol) or DNS (Domain Name System) configuration. Contacting the server team to ensure that there is a DHCP server available to assign IP addresses to new devices and to create a DNS record for the new PC can help resolve the issue. ”

The question could have been better if they said the same cable, connected to the same switch port was connected and it still does not get the IP. In that case there could be many reasons, but port security (sticky) could be a reason. Otherwise it could be that the port is disabled. Question creator probably never worked with a RADIUS sever and faced issues there

If there is port security turned on the chance of link light turning on is less. I wonder what the question creator had in mind
