A project manager of an international project has asked the procurement department to provide details of qualified third-party vendors to ensure the outsourcing for the new technology development.
The Project Manager is asking for this information from the procurement department, not an outside vendor. Why it's not an example of make or buy analysis? What if after getting the information from the procurement department, the manager decides that the vendors are not reliable and decides to learn and create the technology piece in-house?
A request for information (RFI) is used when the owner wants several contractors to provide potential solutions, while a request for proposal (RFP) is used in a bidding process to solicit offers for a project. Knowing when to use each document is key to knowing where the owner is in the buying experience.
RFP, should be the answer here.
An RFP is a formal document that is issued by a company or organization when seeking proposals from potential suppliers or contractors for a specific product or service. In this case, the project manager has asked the procurement department to provide details of qualified third-party vendors in order to evaluate their proposals and determine which vendor to use for the outsourcing of the new technology development.
