An IT manager discovered that hundreds of pages of printed materials are being recycled each day because the materials are left on the printer tray instead of being picked up by users. Which of the following would BEST prevent this waste?
A.
Send friendly reminders to not print unnecessarily.
B.
Enable duplex printing to reduce paper utilization.
C.
Bill each department for the excess material cost.
D.
Require a code or badge before releasing a print job.
D is correct because say if you're working as an IT support technician in a school. They need to require badges or code. For the badge part teachers use the badge to print out worksheets either if it's English, Math, History, Science, even Reading classes. My college uses the code authentication method. I use it to print out my essay for my English class. No matter which part of IT anyone plans to get into, security is absolutely important.
Secured Print and Badging
A secured print is held on the print device until the user authenticates directly with the print device. This mitigates the risk of confidential information being intercepted from the output tray before the user has had time to collect it. Authentication to release the print job might be supported using different formats:
PIN entry requires the user to input the correct password or code via the device control panel.
Badging means the print device is fitted with a smart card reader. The employee must present his or her ID badge to the reader to start the print job.
D makes sense to me. The problem is that users are printing material that they are never retrieving. By requiring a badge or code the document won't print until the user physically goes to the printer to retrieve the documents. If the user never goes to the printer, the documents never get printed, and no waste accumulates. If they do go to the printer they will retrieve the documents, no unnecessary waste accumulates.
B is incorrect, as though it can be seen as an option, D would be better as they need the badge/code and physically go to the printer to print and pick up the jobs.
You should probably just send a reminder before doing something so drastic like billing the branch or needing a password to print lol
