There is a little CompTIA knowledge you need to have when taking these exams. They love to categorize common symptoms - and this is one of them. Ghosting per CompTIA is very frequently associated with drums that have not been cleaned (so the cleaning blade is bad), or the transfer roller is dirty. The reason I would not select fuser is because CompTIA prefers using this consumable in the "toner is smudging on the page after picking it up" question.

Fusers job is to press toner into the paper using high temps - if this isnt success the toner will remain dusty causing smudging as the result. So fuser is not the correct choice

The fuser is responsible for applying heat and pressure to bond the toner to the paper. If the fuser is worn or damaged, it may fail to fully fuse the toner onto the paper, causing residual toner from a previous print cycle to appear as a "ghost" or double image on the next printout. This is a common issue when maintenance has been neglected.

The most likely cause of the double-image issue on printouts is: D. Fuser Explanation: The fuser is responsible for melting the toner onto the paper. If it is worn out or not functioning properly, it can cause ghosting or double imaging, where parts of the print appear duplicated or blurred. This is often due to improper heating or failure of the fuser to fully bond the toner to the paper on the first pass.

I think this is an intentionally vague and misleading question where essentially CompTIA gets to decide which interpretation is correct. I'm going with B, the transfer roller, because the transfer roller physically interacts directly with the imaging drum, and we would no doubt choose Drum if that were a choice. The fuser is more of a separate part and process if you were to actually view the paper travel through the laser printer. The transfer roller is applying a positive charge to the underside of the paper as the top of the paper is being exposed to the toner on the imaging drum, so therefore I think whatever is going on with the transfer roller is causing extra toner to be attracted from the drum, causing our ghost image. I don't like it but I think that makes more sense than the Fuser, which many have pointed out is more associated (at least in CompTIA's world) with smudging.

he transfer roller is responsible for transferring the toner from the drum onto the paper during the printing process. If it is worn out or dirty due to lack of maintenance (no maintenance kit installed for over a year), it can lead to improper toner transfer, resulting in double images or ghosting on the printouts. Replacing the transfer roller as part of the maintenance kit should help resolve the problem.

Fuser is responsible of Ghost image That appear on paper, it’s used for heat toner in printer So if it’s damaged, ink will not be properly Apple and the ghost or double image can be appear. If nobody haven’t answer for one of questions , don’t speak cause it’s disrupt others students

Its the Transfer roller. The Fuser ONLY heats the page and toner then fuses to the page, with a small bit of pressure applied. The transfer roller can cause ghost images and double images from not cleaning properly, hense the mention of no maintenance

These are not smudged images; these are Ghost images. It's only due to the issue with Transfer belts.

Given the circumstances described (lack of maintenance kit for over a year), while the transfer roller is an essential component for the laser printing process, it's less likely to be the primary cause of double imaging. The fuser unit is responsible for melting and fusing the toner onto the paper, and if it's not functioning correctly, it can lead to toner smudging and double imaging issues. Over time, the fuser's components can wear out, affecting its ability to properly fuse toner onto the paper.

B per CompTIA A+ Guide: Double/echo images—This is a sign that the photosensitive drum has not been cleaned properly. The drum is smaller than the size of a sheet of paper, so if the latent image is not completely cleared, it will repeat as a light “ghost” or dark “shadow” image farther down the page. Images may also appear from previous prints. Try printing a series of different images, and see if the problem resolves itself. If not, replace the drum/toner cartridge.
