1. Identify the problem. Done
2. Establish a theory of probable cause. Done
3. Test the theory to determine the cause. The question states that he has "determined" the cause. Done
4. Establish a plan of action to resolve the problem and implement the solution
FYI
5. Verify full system functionality, and, if applicable, implement preventive measures
6. Document findings, actions and outcomes
Isn't it 7 steps?
From CompTIA's page "A guide to network troubleshooting"
1. Identify the Problem
2. Develop a Theory
3. Test the Theory
4. Plan of Action
5. Implement the Solution
6. Verify System Functionality
7. Document the Issue
The technician has determined a probable cause, but has not tested any theories to find the source of that cause, this will require validating findings by doing a search through the network by a top-to-bottom approach where the technician has determined the source to help establish a plan of action to resolve the issue.
Might be wordplay though. :)
C. Establish a plan of action to resolve the issue.
Once the network technician has determined the cause of a network disruption, the next step would be to establish a plan of action to resolve the issue. This plan should detail the steps that need to be taken to fix the problem and restore normal network operations. The plan should take into consideration the scope of the problem, the resources available, and the potential impact on the business.
I think that if the cause has been determined, then that means that a theory was developed (step 2) and tested (step 3). At that point, since the cause has been determined, then a plan of action needs to be established (step 4) to remediate the issue.
he has determined the cause ( = step 2: establish a theory of possible cause), so next step would be: step 3) Test the theory
