A user on a SOHO network is unable to watch online videos, even at 240 pixels. The technician runs ipconfig from the user's computer and records the following:
Connection-specific DNS Suffix .: lan
Link-local IPV6 Address.........: fe80::1585:7fb2:b05f:7102%12
IPv4 Address....................: 192.168.1.131
Subnet Mask.....................: 255.255.255.0
Default Gateway.................: 192.168.1.1
The technician then connects a test laptop to the router via the user's Cat 5 cable and records the following information:

Download: 85 mbps -

Upload: 22 mbps -

Ping: 28 ms -
Which of the following is MOST likely causing the user's issue?

  • A. Incorrect IP address
  • B. Faulty NIC
  • C. Misconfigured default gateway
  • D. Bad network cable

Selected Answer: B
B. Faulty NIC Explanation: Based on the information recorded by the technician, the network connection appears to be functioning normally. The user's computer is properly configured with an IPv4 address, subnet mask, and default gateway, which should allow the user to access the internet and online videos. The high download and upload speeds and low ping time recorded from the test laptop also indicate that the network is working well. However, the user's inability to watch online videos suggests that there might be an issue with the network card (NIC) on the user's computer. The NIC might be faulty or malfunctioning, which is preventing the computer from receiving and processing the video data. The technician should try replacing the NIC to resolve the issue.

The technician did the laptop test with "user's CAT5 cable". So, there is no problem with the cable. B is the correct answer.

It can't be D, because the technician uses the same cable that's used by the customer and it works on his laptop, so it's the network card

Remember what Michael Jackson, "BAD MEANS BAD" If the network cable is BAD then it is not working at all. FAULTY NIC, ALL DAY FAULTY means it works but with issues.

Remember OSI model ...Data Connection is the NIC (DATA LAYER) and Physical Transmission is the NETWORK CABLE(PHYSICAL LAYER). Connection is fine but Signal Transmission is distorted. So I stand with Bad netW cable. :-D

B. Faulty NIC Download 85 Upload 22 ping 28 that's not bad for a cat 5 cable that the maximum is 100mbps so if he tested other laptop and get this result is problem in the USER LAPTOP not cable...come on 240pixel until DSL with 58mbps can run a video in this resolution!

Selected Answer: D
The scenario suggests that the network connection on the user's computer is experiencing significant performance issues, even at a low resolution for online videos. The most probable cause is a faulty, damaged, or bad network cable, which can lead to intermittent or degraded network performance, including slow speeds and connectivity issues. Replacing the network cable should resolve the problem. The fact that a test laptop connected to the same router via the user's Cat 5 cable shows download and upload speeds of 85 Mbps and 22 Mbps, respectively, with a ping of 28 ms indicates that the router and internet connection are functioning correctly.

he technician ran ipconfig on the user's computer and the results show that the IP address, subnet mask, and default gateway are all correct. The technician also connected a test laptop to the router via the user's Cat 5 cable and the results show that the network is running at full speed. This indicates that the user's computer is able to communicate with the router. The only remaining possibility is that the network cable is bad.

Selected Answer: D
A faulty or damaged network cable can lead to intermittent connectivity, reduced data transfer rates, and packet loss, which could result in issues with online video streaming even at lower resolutions. Replacing the network cable with a new one may help resolve the problem and improve the user's online video experience.

It wouldn't be a bad network cable as the test laptop can upload, download and ping just fine.

Selected Answer: D
D. Bad network cable. The given information indicates that the network speed and performance are fine since the technician recorded good download and upload speeds, and a low ping response time on the test laptop. Therefore, the problem is most likely with the user's computer. Since the user is unable to watch even low-resolution videos, it suggests that the network connectivity is not stable enough to support streaming content. The most probable cause of this issue is a bad network cable that is not allowing enough data to pass through or is causing intermittent connection drops.

Wait but those download/upload speeds and ping are from a test that is using the user's cable. If you're saying the given info indicates our network speed and performance are fine then what cable are we referring to as "bad"?
