Wireless users are reporting intermittent internet connectivity. Connectivity is restored when the users disconnect and reconnect, utilizing the web authentication process each time. The network administrator can see the devices connected to the APs at all times. Which of the following steps will MOST likely determine the cause of the issue?

  • A. Verify the session time-out configuration on the captive portal settings
  • B. Check for encryption protocol mismatch on the client's wireless settings
  • C. Confirm that a valid passphrase is being used during the web authentication
  • D. Investigate for a client's disassociation caused by an evil twin AP

Selected Answer: A
A: makes the most sense. Clearly the answer is A B. Encryption protocol, being mismatched I don't think would connect at all. Especially given that the access points are connected at all times. C. They have been able to reconnect before being disconnected so they are getting through authentication. D. The web administrator sees that they are connected, indicating it's not an evil twin but an issue on the network. This is definitely an easier question, just read it, and look at what makes the most sense. Dedony says it best, web authentication is linked to captive portals.

Selected Answer: A
A would be most relevant here because given that the network administrator can see the connections from the routers settings, it makes it clear that there's no evil twin attack taking place. Evil Twin Attack involves DoS Attack which would kick everyone out of the network (making the administrator unable to see the devices while the victims login to the rogue access point). This makes it clear that the answer is in fact A.

Selected Answer: D
An evil twin AP is a rogue access point that mimics a legitimate one. When users connect to it, they may experience intermittent connectivity issues as the rogue AP interferes with the connection. By investigating whether any evil twin APs are present, the network administrator can identify and eliminate the source of the problem. Options A, B, and C are less likely to be the cause of intermittent connectivity issues related to disconnections and reconnections during web authentication processes. Therefore, option D is the most appropriate step to address the reported problem.

Selected Answer: A
If customers are having issues with connecting the Internet from your network AP & having to use the web authentication process/portal each time, it is likely that they are timing out while connected to the network, & you'll need to see why your captive portal does this.

I chose A because if the captive portal timer was misconfigured to where it was too short it would cause a disconnection.
