Here's how it works:
In Bash, the $PATH environment variable is a colon-separated list of directories in which the shell searches for executable files when a command is entered.
When you enter a command in the terminal, the shell searches the directories in the $PATH variable in order, looking for an executable file with the same name as the command.
If the shell finds an executable file with the same name as the command in one of the directories listed in $PATH, it will execute that file.
